Total Merchant Services Gateway Help

Use this page to configure your store to communicate with your Total Merchant Services (TMS) V4.5 account. Complete the required fields below and press the UPDATE button at the bottom of this page.

If you have not yet signed up with TMS, please do so before activating real time credit card processing for your store. Otherwise, your web store will NOT function properly.

REQUIRED fields are shown with a * star

TMS MERCHANT USER ID*
When your V4.5 merchant account is setup, TMS will provide a "user name" to access your Virtual Terminal. Sometimes this is also called TMS login ID.

Enter your TMS user name in the field above. TMS user names look something like F001-3300-C000 and are 14 characters long (be sure to include the dashes).

This field is required.

Do not enter your TMS password here. The password is only needed when you access your TMS Virtual Terminal account with a web browser.

TMS POSTING ADDRESS*
This is the web address that the store will use in order to send credit card transactions to TMS This address is the same for all merchants with a V4.5 TMS account.

This field is required.

The default address is:

https://secure02.totalpay.net/process_epl_v45.asp

CAUTION: do not change this address unless TMS instructs you to do so. This address is only for V4.5 of their gateway.

EPL LOCATION
TMS requires that you provide them with your EPL (external processing location). This is the location from which customer orders will be posted to the TMS gateway from your store. This is an important security measure and insures that nobody other that you can process credit card transactions through your TMS account.

The correct EPL for this store is displayed in the space provided. Be sure to provide TMS with the EXACT EPL STRING shown. The EPL is case sensitive and must be given to TMS exactly like it is shown.

IMPORTANT: TMS will NOT accept transactions from your store until the EPL above is recorded into their database. This is done for security purposes.

NOTE: TMS allows you to have up to 25 EPLs for any TMS merchant account. Normally, you will only need 1 EPL. However, if you have multiple web stores for your company, you will need to provide TMS with each store's EPL in order to process all of your stores' transactions through your one TMS account.

TMS FORM TO USE*
When your store sends transactions to the gateway for processing, TMS will display a secure order form to your customer to collect their credit card information. You have the option to configure your TMS virtual terminal to display a generic credit card form or a custom credit card form. A custom credit card form can only be setup or changed through your TMS Virtual Terminal.

Your store needs to tell your TMS virtual terminal which type of form you want displayed to each customer during checkout. If you have configured a custom credit card form for your TMS account, then select the "Custom TMS Credit Card Form" option. If not, select "Generic TMS Credit Card Form".

TYPE OF CREDIT CARD PROCESSING TO PERFORM*
There are two types of credit card processing that can be done for each credit card order. A "normal sale" or a "pre-authorize only". Please read the information below and then select which type of processing you want done.

A "normal sale" is a traditional credit card sale in which the credit card is validated and approved by the credit card company, the charge is posted to the customer's account, and then the money from the sale is deposited into your company's checking account. This is what most merchants choose to do.

A "pre-authorize only" will just validate the credit card and put a temporary hold on the customer's credit limit for the amount of the sale. It will NOT actually charge the customer NOR will it deposit money into your bank account UNTIL you review the order and complete it as a normal sale (called "forcing" a sale).

PROCESSING RESULT CONTROL OPTION*
There are two ways to control what happens once the customer enters their credit card number and expiration date on the remote TMS credit card page. Both options have benefits and drawbacks which are outlined below.

Display TMS Result Page
This option tells the TMS system to display a "results" screen after the customer enters their credit card number and expiration date and presses the "CONTINUE ORDER" button.

If the transaction is declined, TMS will tell the customer their card was declined and ask them to try another card. NOTE: the store is NOT aware of this event since control was NOT transferred back to it (control remains on the remote TMS system).

If the transaction is accepted, the TMS "results" screen will appear informing the customer that their card was accepted. It will also ask the customer to click on a button to "Complete Order". If they do, control will then be sent back to your store from TMS where the transaction results will be recorded into the store's database, confirmation emails will be sent to the customer and store managers, and the store's thank you page will be displayed.

When you view this order from the store's Main Menu, the customer's credit card name, billing address, and the results of the transaction will be displayed. For security reasons, the credit card number and expiration date are NOT posted back to the store's database by TMS, and therefore cannot be shown when viewing orders.

IMPORTANT: if the customer does NOT press the button on the TMS results page, control never gets returned to your store, the store's database will still show this order as "Pending", no confirmation emails will be sent to the customer/store managers, and your store's thank you page will never be displayed to the customer.

Display Store's Result Page
This option
tells the TMS system to accept the customer's credit card information, process it, BUT return control directly back to the store in order to show the customer the results of the credit card transaction. The TMS "results" page never appears to the customer.

If the transaction is NOT accepted by TMS, your store will record this fact into it's database and tell the customer their credit card was declined. Your store will also instruct the customer to return to the previous page (on TMS) and try another credit card.

If the transaction is accepted by TMS, your store will tell the customer their card was accepted, record it into its orders database, send out order confirmation emails to the customer and store managers, and display the store's thank you page.

Since TMS only sends back the transaction processing "result codes" to your store, you will NOT be shown the customer's credit card name or billing address when viewing this order from the store's Main Menu. You will, however, be able to see the transaction processing result codes that were sent back to the store by TMS

IMPORTANT: since the customer is being taken from the TMS credit card page directly back to your store, a warning message will appear just after they enter their credit card and press the "CONTINUE ORDER" button. This pop-up message will warn them that their information may be sent "unsecured" over the Internet even though this is NOT TRUE.

What is really happening is that TMS is processing the credit card securely (on its secure sever), storing the credit card number and expiration date into a TMS database (on its secure sever), and then redirecting the customer back to your store. This is done WITHOUT sending the credit card data back to the store. The only data sent back to the store are the transaction processing result codes. This warning message cannot be bypassed by TMS or by your store since it is controlled by the settings in the customer's browser software.
