Payment Methods Accepted Help

When a customer purchases something from your store, they will be asked to select their desired payment method (like pay by check, wire transfer, etc...) during checkout. This administration page allows you to define what types of payment methods (up to 15) you want displayed to the customer for selection.

The store will display whatever payment methods you define on this page. The payment methods will be displayed in the order you enter them and blank payment methods will be ignored.

Only enter NON-credit card payment methods on this page. Credit card controls are defined elsewhere in the store's administration system - they are not done here.

First Time Access: when you first access this page, the store will pre-fill some of the fields for you. NOTE: the payment methods are only pre-filled on the screen and have NOT been recorded into the store's database. You will need to click the UPDATE button at the bottom of the page to record the payment methods and complete this section of the store.

If you do not want any (non-credit card) payment methods to be displayed, leave all the fields blank on this page and then click the UPDATE button.

NOTE: if you do not enter any payment methods here, you will need to define at least one type of credit card that you will accept. This is done through another option on Main Menu. If you don't, the customer will not be able to checkout since there won't be any way for them to tell you how they want to pay for the merchandise they ordered.

Special instructions: For each payment method you define on this page, you may optionally enter "special instructions" text for it. The text must be entered in the field shown to the right of the payment method. These instructions will be shown to the customer during checkout and they can be used to pass important information along to the customer.

Examples of special instruction text:

"Make all checks payable to XXXXXX."
"Checks are only accepted if they are drawn on a US bank."
"Purchase Orders are only accepted from Fortune 500 companies."

PAYMENT METHOD TABLE FORMAT
When a customer performs a checkout from your store, they will be presented with a web page that asks them to select one of the payment methods you have defined for your store. The payment methods will be shown to the customer in the form of a "selection table".

This field controls what format the store uses to display each payment method's name and notes within the selection table. The format choices are:

  • One Column: Side-by-Side Format
  • Two Column: Side-by-Side Format
  • Two Rows: Over-Under Format

Examples of each "table format" are shown below (note: the color scheme will depend on the skin you are using):

Payment Method Message
This optional field allows you to display a "payment method" message to your customers. This text will appear just below the Payment Method Selection List during customer checkout.

This field is optional and may contain HTML commands as well and is normally used to display Visa / Master Card Logo's (through HTML image commands/links) and required Merchant information.

PayPal Configuration
The next section is used to allow customers to purchase from your store using their PayPal account.

NOTE: If you don't have a PayPal merchant account, signing up for one is simple and allows customers to pay you electronically without having to send you a check. PayPal is a very popular Internet payment service and is trusted by millions of online buyers.

Activate PayPal Payments?
If you want to allow this type of payment during checkout, please check the "Activate PayPal Payments" checkbox and complete the rest of the needed PayPal fields.

If you do NOT want PayPal being listed as one of the available payment options, then make sure this box is unchecked.

Maximum Paypal Order Amount:
This optional field is used to limit how much the customer can order when paying through Paypal. If you want to use this feature, enter an amount into this field.

Leave this field blank if you do not want to enforce a limit on Paypal sales.

Your PayPal Login Email Address:
This field is used to tell PayPal which merchant is being paid by the customer during checkout. You must enter the complete email address assigned to your PayPal account. This is the same email address you use when you login to your PayPal account. This field is required when you activate PayPal payments for your store.

PayPal Store Name to Display:
The contents of this field will be displayed to the customer when they are taken to the PayPal web site during checkout. This will help identify what store their payment is for. Normally, this should be the name of your online store plus the word "Purchase". This field is required when you activate PayPal payments for your store.

Display Your Store Logo Image?
If you want to have you store's logo image displayed to the customer on the PayPal web site, then check this box. When you do, PayPal will automatically "fetch" your store's logo image (right from your web site) and display it as part of their secure payment form.

CAUTION: you should ONLY display your logo when your web site has its own SSL certificate installed and when you are using LOCAL SSL during customer checkout.

If your site does NOT use local SSL during checkout and you display your logo on the PayPal web site, a warning message will appear to the customer about "insecure items" being displayed on the PayPal web site. This message may cause your customers some concern regarding the security of their payment to you.
