UPLOADING HELP
This store allows you to use custom images and graphics for certain areas of your store like the store's logo, department images, product images, etc... If your user record is set to use WEB BROWSER UPLOADS, the you may upload images to your store using a web browser and this help page information is valid. If your user record is set to use MANUAL FTP UPLOADS, then you will need to manually upload images to your store's Qstore/uploads directory. This help page DOES NOT apply when images are being uploaded manually. SPECIAL NOTE: If you are having trouble getting past administration pages that contain store/product images, (the store reports that the input fields are empty when they are not), then your browser does not properly support web uploads of image files. This happens on old version of browsers (Internet Explorer and Netscape) and on some Macintosh browsers. You should return to the Store Administration Security and change your user settings to use the "Manual FTP Upload" option. If you do not have access to the Store Administration Security section of the Main Menu, please ask your Company's Store Manager to change this setting for your user ID. PLEASE NOTE: please be patient when uploading an image to your store. This is true regardless of whether you are uploading an image for the store, or for a product, department, or category. Image files can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 minutes to upload each time. The upload time will vary depending on the size of the image file and the speed of your modem. Make sure image files are no bigger than 30,000 bytes in size. Remember, the smaller the file size, the faster it will upload to your store and display on your store pages. DO NOT press your browser's STOP button and then try to re-upload the image. This will cause multiple uploads of the same image file to run at the same time which will just make things slower. THE
BASICS OF UPLOADING IMAGES NOTE: make sure your image file name DOES NOT contain any spaces, slashes, or quotes. If it does, the upload feature may fail or issue an error message. Uploading is done with your web browser and copies the file from your computer to its proper location within your store. If you do not see a BROWSE button as part of an upload item, it means your browser is unable to perform image uploads. You will need to install a newer version of your browser software before you can upload images to your store. IMPORTANT NOTE: if one of your store pages does not show the image you uploaded (i.e. a broken image link appears), then you need to access the Main Menu and perform the upload again. This occurs when your browser fails to send the entire image file when you pressed the UPDATE button on the web page. NOTE: make sure your image file name DOES NOT contain any spaces, slashes, or quotes. If it does, the upload feature will fail or issue an error message. Missing or Empty Image Files: If you check the "/uploads" directory with this store's directory structure (with a FTP program), you should see all of your uploaded images and logos. If you see an image with a file size of zero (0) or an image file is missing, then it never made it to your web site from your computer. You will need to upload the image file again. CLEAR
YOUR BROWSER'S MEMORY CACHE: REFRESH THE SCREEN: also, try pressing the RELOAD or REFRESH button on your browser while displaying the store page. This tells the browser to fetch a new copy of the page from the server which should show its new contents. Some browsers may require that you press and hold down the CONTROL key while you click on the RELOAD or REFRESH button. |
