Advanced Store Update Help

You have selected to define or make changes to your store's advanced configuration. The fields and options presented here control your store's advanced settings.

Required fields are indicated with a star * after their field name.

Use SSL During Customer Checkout*
SSL stands for "Secure Sockets Layer" and is used to encrypt credit card transactions from the customer's web browser to your web server.

This feature allows the safe transfer of credit card and other sensitive information between the customer and your store. When encrypted with SSL technology, the information cannot be intercepted while in transit and provides a safe shopping experience for your customers.

If your web site has SSL enabled, then select the YES option and complete the next two fields. If not, click the NO option and skip the next two fields. Contact your web hosting provider is you need assistance.

Note: this field will be ignored if you have activated real time credit card processing.

Run Customer Checkout SSL on Local or Remote Server*
If you are using SSL for credit card orders, you need to indicate whether the SSL will be running from the local server (under your site's exact domain name) or from a remote server (a different domain name with the SSL certificate that you are sharing).

During checkout, the system will present a credit card entry page to the customer. If you are running SSL from the local server (e.g. from inside your web site), the system will be able to use the skin assigned to your store when it builds the credit card page. In this case, the system will assume your web site has its own SSL certificate and the SSL address will be something like the following:

https://www.yourwebsitename.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi

If SSL is running on a remote server (an address other than the example above), the software will use a "generic" credit card page with your store name at the top. Skins cannot be used or applied to credit card pages running from a remote SSL server. Also, you will need to properly complete the next section in order for remote SSL processing to function properly.

Note: this field will be ignored if you have activated real time credit card processing.

Full Path to "Remote" SSL Directory
This field is required ONLY if you selected USE SSL = YES and the RUN SSL = REMOTE in the fields above. Otherwise, this field must be left blank.

If you are running the SSL from the local server, then DO NOT complete this field. This path tells the shopping cart system where to find the (remote) SSL enabled server and where to run your credit card entry page from. If you are not sure what to enter, please ask your web hosting provider for assistance.

The remote server will need to have both an active SSL certificate and a special store script installed into a unique directory that you can use for this process. Path names are usually case sensitive so be sure to type the exact path name with the correct UPPER and lower case letters. Examples:

https://www.remoteservername.com/yourstorename/

or

https://ssl.remoteservername.com/yourstorename/

or

https://ssl.yourwebsitename.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi/

The system will attempt to run the Qstore_remote_ssl.cgi script from the remote server path you enter above. Be sure your web hosting company creates a UNIQUE directory for you on their remote SSL server in the SSL enabled directory listed above.

They will also need to place the Qstore_remote_ssl.cgi script into that directory (upload it in BINARY MODE using FTP), set its permissions properly (as "755"), and enable it to be executed while running SSL on that server. On some servers, the httpd.conf file will also need to be changed to allow CGI scripts to be run from inside the remote SSL directory under the SSL (port 443 virtual host section in addition to port 80 virtual host section).

NOTE: the directory that contains this script must have its permissions set to "777".

Please contact your web hosting company for assistance with remote SSL processing setup and configuration.

This field will be ignored if you have activated real time credit card processing.

CLICK HERE FOR IMPORTANT TIPS REGARDING THE STORE'S CHECKOUT PROCEDURE

Minimum Order Amount
If you want to require that all customers order a minimum amount of products, then enter an amount in this field. Enter it as a number with two decimal places and be sure to include the decimal point. Do not include a currency symbol or other punctuation (no commas).

Example: "10.00" - this would require that the customer order 10.00 worth of products before they will be allowed to "check out".

Other examples: 7.25, 5.00, 0.75, 125.00, 11.95

Leave this field blank if you do not wish to require a minimum order amount.

IMPORTANT: this limit is applied to the customer's order BEFORE shipping charges and sales taxes are added (i.e. just the customer's shopping cart total).

Maximum Order Amount and On CC Orders Only?
If you want the store to limit the maximum size of a single order, enter an amount in the first field. Enter it as a number with two decimal places and be sure to include the decimal point. Do not include a currency symbol or other punctuation (no commas).

Example: "1000.00" - this would limit the size of any customer order to be 1000.00 or less.

Mark the check-box field if you ONLY want this limit applied to credit card orders.

Leave these fields blank if you do not wish to limit the maximum size of any order.

IMPORTANT: this limit is applied to the customer's order AFTER shipping charges have been added but BEFORE sales taxes are added (e.g. just the customer's shopping cart total plus shipping charges for the shipping method selected).

Allow Tax Exempt Orders*
If you want the store to allow (sales) tax exempt orders, click the "Yes" option. If you do, the store will provide a field during checkout that will allow the customer to enter their tax ID number. If they enter a tax ID number, the store will NOT charge sales tax on the customer's order.

NOTE: the store has no way to check whether or not the customer's tax ID number is valid which means you will need to do so before processing the customer's order.

Select the "No" option if you DO NOT want the store to allow for tax exempt orders.

Remember Customers During Checkout*
When this feature is active, the store will ask the customer if they want their checkout information "saved" and used for future orders. This feature saves the customer time (an encourages repeat business) since the store can use their "saved information" to pre-fill most of the checkout fields.

If you want the store to "remember" customers during checkout, click the "Yes" option.

If you activate this feature, the store will need to ask all customers for their checkout "password" (and email address) at the very beginning of the checkout process. This is required in order for the store to identify the customer and retrieve their customer information.

If the customer is purchasing from your store for the very first time, they will need to "register" before they can checkout. Registration involves entering their email address and selecting a password. Once they are registered, the checkout process will be allowed to begin.

Select the "No" option if you DO NOT want the store to remember customers during checkout. The store will NOT prompt the customer for a checkout password NOR will the store ask the customer if they want their information saved for future orders.

Ask Customers for Their Credit Card's Bank Name and Phone Number:*
For security purposes (to help prevent credit card fraud), you should always require that customers provide the name of the bank who issued their credit/debit card as well as the bank's phone number.

Collecting this information during checkout will allow you to call the bank and verify the cardholder's name and account information for any suspicious orders.

Deny Orders From:
If you want the store to NOT accept orders from customers who use certain types of "free" email accounts, enter a series of disallowed email domains in the field above.

If you are entering multiple domains, please separate them by inserting a colon. The store will accept up to 50 email domains in this field.

Example:

yahoo.com;hotmail.com;email.com

In the example above, the store wont accept orders from customers whose email address contains the phrase yahoo.com, hotmail.com, or email.com.

This field is optional and can be left blank.

Adjusting the Store's Time of Day:
The store keeps track of the time and date that each customer order was placed, and does so by using the web server's standard time which is GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).

Most likely GMT is NOT the same time as where you are located. This section of the store allows you to adjust your "store's time" to be the same as your local time.

NOTE: This adjustment does NOT actually change the server's time. It simply adjusts the time by the number of hours you specify (+ or -) before it's displayed on the Main Menu or when viewing orders. This adjusted time is called the "store's time".

Current Server Time:
This is the current server time which is shown as GMT. This value comes from web server that is running your web site and store. GMT is a worldwide standard that all web servers measure the current time by. You "store's time" is derived from the server's GMT and is done by adjusting it by a certain number of hours (+/-).

NOTE: if the current server time does not reflect the correct GMT, then you need to let your web hosting company know that the web server's time is off and needs adjusting.

How to Adjust Time:
This option allows you to specify how you want the server's time adjusted. Select "Increase" if the server's time is behind your local time (to advance the time). Select "Decrease" if your local time is behind the server's time (to reduce the time). Select "No Adjustment" if your local time is the same as the server's time or you don't want the server's time adjusted.

Number of Hours to Adjust:
If you selected "Increase" or "Decrease" in the field above, you need to enter the number of hours, from 1 to 23, that you want the server's time adjusted by. Be sure to enter the number of hours as a positive number.

Adjusted Store Time:
This field shows you the adjusted store time.

NOTE: in order to change it, complete the fields above and click the UPDATE button at the bottom of the page. When you return to this page, the new adjusted store time will be displayed. The adjusted store's time will also be shown on the Main Menu and when customer orders are viewed.

Copyright Notice*
The store will place a small copyright notice at the bottom of each page in your store. Use this field to enter or change the text you want to appear as the copyright notice. This field is required.

Example:

Copyright 1996-2000, All Rights Reserved, Company Name Here

We recommend that you keep the copyright notice to one line of text (with no more than 100 characters).

Currency Symbol*
Enter the currency symbol you want displayed to your customers. For the United States, the symbol is a dollar sign "$". This field is required.

If you are outside the United States and would like the store to use a different currency symbol, please enter it in this field. The maximum length of the currency symbol is 5 characters.

Weight Measurement*
Enter the weight measurement you want displayed to your customers. For the United States, this field should be pounds "lbs.". This field is required.

If you are outside the United States and would like the store to use a different measurement, please enter it in this field. The maximum length of the measurement field is 10 characters.

STORE LINKS*
When your store pages are displayed to a customer, a series of "links" will be shown on each page. These links allow a customer to quickly "jump" to a new section of the store.

The table presented allows you to customize how these links appear to the customer as well as the order of the links. All fields in the table are required.

The default order and title of each link is as follows:

1) VIEW CART
2) CHECKOUT
3) ABOUT US
4) CONTACT US
5) SPECIALS
6) SEARCH
7) HOME
8) PRIVACY
9) POLICIES
10) F.A.Q.

Link Usage - this column of the table indicates what the link is used for. Each link's "usage" is predefined and cannot be changed.

Link Title - this field contains the "name" or "title" for the link. If you want the store to display something different, enter it into the field provided. Link titles can be up to 30 characters long. However, they should be kept as short as possible.

Display Position - this field controls the order of the links on the page. Enter a value from 1 to 99 in each field.

NOTE: when you click the UPDATE button at the bottom of the page, the store will re-sequence the links into the order you specify and renumber them starting with 1.

Show Link? - This field controls whether or not the link is to be displayed. When checked, the store will display the link on all pages in the store. If unchecked, the link will not be shown to the customer on any page.

Line Break After? - This field controls whether or not the store inserts a "line break" after the link is shown on the page. When you select "Yes", the store will insert a line break immediately after the link. The remaining links, if any, will be shown on the next line.

HOME LINK OVERRIDE
When clicked, the store's "HOME" button/links (and your store's logo) normally take the customer back to the store's "welcome" (entry) page. This is called the "default action".

If you wish the HOME button/links to take the customer someplace else, enter the FULL URL path (including the "http://" prefix) to the web page you want displayed. This override can be used to take the customer back to your main web site's home page or to another web site all together.

Leave this field blank if you want the default action to take place.

CONTACT US LINK OVERRIDE
When clicked, the store's "CONTACT US" button/links normally open an email window that allows the customer to contact you via email. This is called the "default action".

If you wish the CONTACT US button/links to take the customer someplace else, enter the FULL URL path (including the "http://" prefix) to the web page you want displayed. This override can be used to take the customer to an "email input form" on your web site, or to any web page anywhere on the Internet.

Leave this field blank if you want the default action to take place.

PRIVACY LINK TEXT:
This text is shown to the customer when they click the PRIVACY link in your store. This field is only required when you configure the store to show the PRIVACY link to the customer during shopping. This field can include HTML commands for additional formatting control.

Leave this field blank if you are not showing the PRIVACY link in the store.

POLICIES LINK TEXT:
This text is shown to the customer when they click the POLICIES link in your store. This field is only required when you configure the store to show the POLICIES link to the customer during shopping. This field can include HTML commands for additional formatting control.

Leave this field blank if you are not showing the POLICIES link in the store.

FAQ LINK TEXT:
This text is shown to the customer when they click the FAQ link in your store. This field is only required when you configure the store to show the FAQ link to the customer during shopping. This field can include HTML commands for additional formatting control.

Leave this field blank if you are not showing the FAQ link in the store.

SPECIALS PAGE TEXT:
Enter the text you want displayed at the top of the Special page. HTML is allowed in this field. This text will appear just above the list of products that are currently on special.

Otherwise, leave this field blank if you do not want any custom text displayed.

CUSTOM LINK SETUP
This optional field allows you to add a "custom" link to the store links that appear to the customer.

IMPORTANT: This feature should be used ONLY by persons with experience using HTML commands and tags. Incorrect use of this feature can leave your store inoperable.

To use this feature, you need to complete the following three setup fields:

Title: the store will display whatever text you enter into this field.

A HREF Contents: this command will be inserted into the HTML code behind this link. This is the "action" or "command" to be taken when the customer clicks on this link.

Placement: this tells the store where you want the custom link to appear (with respect to the other store links that are to be displayed to the customer). Select "First" if you want this link to appear before the other store links. Select "Last" if you want this link to appear at the very end of the store links.

Example #1:

If you want to add a link that simulates the Browser's "back" button, enter the following values into the custom link setup fields:

Title: Back
Contents: javascript:history.back()
Placement: Last

Here is how this link would appear to the customer: Back

Note: the link contents above use the Browser's built-in support for "JavaScript". This link will only work when the customer has NOT turned off the JavaScript support in their browser software. Most browsers have JavaScript support enabled by default.

Example #2:

If you want to add a link that takes the customer to another web site, enter the following values into the setup fields:

Title: Go To Amazon.com
Contents: http://www.amazon.com
Placement: First

Here is how this link would appear to the customer: Go To Amazon.com

Example #3:

If you want to add a link that takes the customer to another web site in a new browser window, enter the following EXACT values (pay close attention to the use of the quote marks below) into the setup fields:

Title: ESPN.COM
Contents: http://www.espn.com"   target="new
Placement: Last

Here is how this link would appear to the customer: ESPN.COM

Note: the contents field will be inserted into the HTML command in-between two master quote marks that are required by this HTML command (like "http://www.amazon.com"). Therefore, if you want to add any extra HTML control tags (like the target="new"), you must ONLY type the command string that is to be inserted in-between the two master quote marks! That is why the contents field above looks incomplete with respect to the number of quote marks used.

SHIPPING PAGE CHECKOUT FIELDS*
The first page that appears to the customer during checkout is the "Shipping Address" page. This area controls what input fields you want displayed and in what order.

IMPORTANT NOTE: when a customer is checking out, the "State" field will ONLY be required when the "Country" field is set to be "United States". When it's USA, the "Province" field must be blank. The reverse is true as well. When the Country field is NOT "United States", the State field will need to be set to "none" and the Province field will then be required.

FIELD USAGE:
This column of the input table shows you what each checkout field is to be used for. The "usage" cannot be changed and is required in order for the checkout system to work properly.

There are a number of "standard" checkout fields which already have their "Field Usage" defined. Each of these is initially listed at the top of the checkout field list. There are also a number of "custom" input fields that you may use and they are initially listed at the bottom of the list.

FIELD TITLE:
For each checkout field shown, including the custom fields, you must have a "Field Title" defined for it. This is true even when you mark a field to be "hidden".

The Field Title is what appears to the customer when they checkout from your store. You may enter whatever you like into this field (up to 30 characters).

DISPLAY POSITION:
For each checkout field shown, including the custom fields, you must have a "Display Position" value defined for it. This is true even when you mark a field to be "hidden".

The Display Position number controls the "order" of the checkout fields when they are displayed to your customers. To change their order, enter any number from 1 through 99 in this field for the checkout fields that you wish to change.

INPUT REQUIRED:
This field is used to tell the store to require input for the checkout field. When you check the "required" option, the store will make sure the customer enters something into the field. If this option is unchecked, the customer will be able to leave the field empty.

IMPORTANT NOTE: some of the fields above must always be shown (not hidden) and set as a "required" field in order for the store to operate properly. They are the "First Name", "Last Name", "Address 1", "City", "State", "Zip", "Country", and "Email" fields.

HIDE FIELD:
This field is used to tell the store to "hide" (not display) the field from the customer during checkout. A field will be displayed to the customer during checkout unless you check this field.

IMPORTANT NOTE: some of the fields above must always be shown (not hidden) and set as a "required" field in order for the store to operate properly. They are the "First Name", "Last Name", "Address 1", "City", "State", "Zip", "Country", and "Email" fields.

Important Tips:
The "Tax Exempt Number" field will only be shown during checkout if you have selected to allow tax exempt orders.

The "Coupon Code" field will only be shown during checkout if there are active coupon codes defined for your store.

CUSTOM FIELDS
The store allows you to define several "custom" checkout fields. Each custom field can has a "title" associated with it as well as a flag to indicate whether or not input is required in this field. If you elect to "Hide" the field, it will not appear to the customer during checkout.

You also may define the "type" of checkout field and its available "options" as well as tell the store at what position on the checkout page the field is to appear.

There are four types of custom checkout fields:

1) Text Field - the store will display a single input field that the customer can use to enter text. The "Custom Field Options" is ignored for "text" fields. Please see the examples below.

2) Radio Buttons - this tells the store to display the custom checkout field as a list of radio buttons (only one option can be selected). The store uses the "choices" you enter in the field called "Custom Field Options" when creating the radio buttons. Please see the example below.

Options are entered into the one field with each option separated (delimited) by a semicolon. The first option you enter will be the "default" (option preselected) for this type of custom field. The maximum length of this field is 15,000 characters or 200 choices (whichever is less).

3) Drop Down List - this setting tells the store to display the custom checkout field as a drop down selection list (only one option can be selected). The store uses the "choices" you enter in the field called "Custom Field Options" when creating the drop down list. Please see the example below.

Options are entered into the one field with each option separated (delimited) by a semicolon. The first option you enter will be the "default" (option preselected) for this type of custom field. The maximum length of this field is 15,000 characters or 200 choices (whichever is less).

4) Check Boxes - this setting tells the store to display the custom checkout field as a set of check boxes (multiple items can be selected). The store uses the "choices" you enter in the field called "Custom Field Options" when creating the check boxes. Please see the example below.

Options are entered into the one field with each option separated (delimited) by a semicolon. The first option you enter will be the "default" (option preselected) for this type of custom field. The maximum length of this field is 15,000 characters or 200 choices (whichever is less).

Suspend Store Message:
There may be times that you would like to temporarily suspend store operations. Example: when you are making changes to your store and you don't want the store displayed to your customers until you are finished.

If you enter something into this field, the store will suspend operations and display this text as a message to your customers. The store will resume operations when you remove the text in this field.

NOTE: if this feature is active, the store skin pages will not be used. Instead, the text in this field will be displayed to the customer on a plain white HTML page. This field is optional and may contain HTML if you would like add color or other special formatting.
